Joseph Harwood - Working as a trans Model (2005-2010)
In the summer holidays of 2005, I was using MySpace to create online connections and I found myself going viral with over 500,000 people following my page. I then was approached to model for Dazed and Confused magazine by their editor who recruited me to cast for Alexander McQueen. I was continually scouted around London for various things from H&M, to walking in London Fashion Week at 16. I modelled for many brands and editorials at that time before going to Japan where I got the chance to shoot for editorial magazines. I really enjoyed it but there was no androgynous or trans presenting models out at that time, there was some people who inspired me, like Martin Kohn, Matthew Joseph, Omayhra Mota was a massive inspiration and Jared Branch was kind of androgynous. But there was no space so despite the fact I was perfectly suited to shoot many various works, I was not given the opportunities.
